Research & Development
Since our origins as a Trinity College Dublin spin-out, Easy Hydro has always been a research-based company. Therefore, we are continuously involved in a series of internal and collaborative R&D projects to develop and test new solutions.
Internal R&D and hydraulic test rig
Our engineering team is working on several cutting-edge technologies to make small-scale hydropower even more convenient and practical. The latest innovation is a low-cost off-grid hydropower solution to equip remote sites.
HY4RES
Easy Hydro is among the partners of the HY4RES project, which received a €3.2 million grant by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme 2021-2027 framework and will foster the development of hybrid renewable energy systems for the green transition of the Atlantic area of Europe. HY4RES will combine solar, wind and hydropower in hybrid systems for renewable energy production and will develop energy storage at micro-scale.
The project, co-funded by the EU programme Interreg Atlantic Area, will provide affordable and sustainable energy solutions for agriculture, aquaculture, industry and domestic sectors.
HY4RES involves 9 partners from 4 Atlantic Area countries: Ireland, Spain, Portugal and France, working in the fields of renewable energy, agriculture, aquaculture and ports sector.

iAMP-Hydro
Easy Hydro is among the partners of iAMP-Hydro, a €4.1 million Horizon Europe project with the aim of developing digital solutions to improve the efficiency, flexibility and sustainability of the existing EU hydropower fleet.
iAMP-Hydro will improve the operation of existing hydropower plants through the development of six expected results (R) which will collectively form a novel intelligent Asset Management Platform – in short: the iAMP (being result R5) – encompassing secure open and transparent data sharing protocols (R4) and three novel digital solutions (R1 – R3):
- Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance modelling;
- Ecological status monitoring and water management;
- Improved weather and flow forecasting;
- Secure open and transparent data sharing protocols;
- The intelligent Asset Management Platform.
The full package of digital solutions will be validated at a diverse set of five real-world hydropower plants producing evidence for policy making to support the green and digital transition of hydropower (R6).
The existing plants include differing power capacities, electro-mechanical equipment type, water end-use, flow and head regimes, climatic conditions, and environmental sensitivities (biodiversity).

EIT RawMaterials Accelerator
Easy Hydro is a proud graduate of the EIT RawMaterials accelerator program.
EnWaRec
Easy Hydro is among the 9 partners of the EnWaRec project co-funded by the European Union. The aim of the project is to develop technologies and tools for energy and water recovery in the European steel industry, contributing to the Green Deal and circular economy goals.
A special focus is placed on the reuse of energy, water and valuable materials as part of the transition to hydrogen-based steel production thus reducing CO₂ emissions and saving resources such as natural gas.
