Easy Hydro develops the HY4RES weather forecast app

The development of models for renewable energy prediction is one of the main targets of the HY4RES research project. In fact, intermittent renewable energy sources rely heavily on weather conditions and on the availability of natural resources such as solar radiation and wind to produce electricity.

Therefore, the first step to develop novel renewable energy prediction models is to obtain accurate forecasts of future weather conditions.

The HY4RES Weather Forecast App for Renewable Energy Prediction developed by Easy Hydro provides a comprehensive set of over 30 weather variables (e.g. temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed, air pressure, UV index) with forecasts up to 15 days ahead. The app will be useful to develop appropriate energy management strategies based on such weather forecasts.

This desktop app integrates an API continuously gathering weather forecast data on an hourly basis. A graphical example of the app is shown in the graphic below, with some of the variables plotted.

The Weather Forecast App for Renewable Energy Prediction will help its users, in particular owners of renewable energy assets, to optimize the energy generation based on different parameters:

  ●       For Solar Energy: predicted solar radiation, cloud cover, UV index, and expected sunlight hours.

●        For Wind Energy: wind speed, direction, wind gust forecasts, as well as optimal wind conditions for turbines.

Easy Hydro co-develops a Multi-SCADA System at five Hydropower Plants

Enhancing Hydropower Monitoring in Southern Spain

Easy Hydro is co-developing a Multi-SCADA system to remotely manage five hydropower plants in the south of Spain. This innovative system aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance real-time data acquisition, and optimize performance across the hydropower assets. By integrating multiple SCADA platforms into a single interface, the project ensures seamless monitoring and control, reducing operational complexity.

Multi-SCADA systems enable centralized data analysis, predictive maintenance, and remote control capabilities, providing a more efficient and resilient hydropower management approach. The collaborative project represents a significant step towards our client’s smarter hydropower operations.

EasyHydro in Bordeaux for the HY4RES partner meeting

Easy Hydro was pleased to participate in the HY4RES Partner meeting held in Bordeaux, France at the end of November.

Our team which included our Chief Technical Officer Miguel Crespo Chacon shared the progress made over the last six months and actively participated in the open day with shareholders. It turned out to be an informative and productive event, during which the status of the pilot projects was also discussed.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of the project!

Easy Hydro will be exhibiting at the 2025 AUSIMM Underground Operators conference in Adelaide

What is the Underground Operators (UGOPS) conference?

Organized by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AUSIMM), every two years the event brings together over a thousand participants to discuss all things about underground mining. The discussions will focus on health and safety, mine ventilation, social licensing, technology, automation and the global journey towards net zero.

As a part of this, Easy Hydro will exhibit a prototype energy recovery water turbine and present a technical paper about the relevance and impact of our technology towards the decarbonization of the mining sector.

Come and meet us at Australia’s premier underground mining conference on 7-9 April 2025! We will be at the Minegear booth #134.

Here is a teaser video to see what you can expect.

Easy Hydro in Limassol for the 3rd iAMP-Hydro plenary meeting

Easy Hydro was pleased to participate in the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the iAMP-Hydro Project hosted by Suite5 in Limassol, Cyprus. The event was a great opportunity for all the consortium partners to come together and share insights about hydropower and sustainability.

Our AI and optimisation modeller Bhavya Maheshwari spent over two days with Easy Hydro’s project partners, discussing the technical progress and sharing the preliminary results of the work.

Thank You for Joining Us at Hydro2024!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended the presentation “Developing an Advanced Machine Learning Framework for Cavitation Detection in Hydropower Plants” by Bhavya Maheshwari from Easy Hydro.

HYDRO2024, held from November 18 to 20 in Graz, Austria, was a leading global event for hydropower professionals. With over 1,200 attendees from 75+ countries, the conference focused on challenges and innovations in hydropower, dam engineering, and pumped storage under the theme “Secure Technology for Turbulent Times.”

The questions from the audience made the session truly rewarding, and reinforced the value of collaboration in advancing hydropower innovation.

Easy Hydro at the ACCADUEO H2O fair in Bari, Italy

The ACCADUEO H2O fair has been the leading event for Italy’s water sector for the past 30 years. This year’s edition took place for the first time at the Nuova Fiera del Levante in Bari on November 27th-28th, offering a full schedule of conferences along with an exhibition hall.

Our long-term partner SAER Elettropompe (https://www.saerelettropompe.com/en/) was exhibiting at the event, and their booth featured a full-scale prototype of our hydro energy recovery turbine for pressurized water networks.

Instead of dissipating excess pressure through throttling valves, an Easy Hydro system allows the water network operator to generate valuable green electricity as a byproduct.

A heartfelt thank you to SAER Elettropompe, the event organizers, and especially to everyone who visited our booth over the two days! Stay tuned for upcoming Easy Hydro events.

Happy Holidays, and Happy Birthday to Easy Hydro!

The Easy Hydro team recently gathered to celebrate the 5-years anniversary of Easy Hydro and the upcoming holiday season. It was a great opportunity to review the challenges and targets for 2025, and to discuss about the many promising projects ahead.

A big thank you and Happy Holidays to our suppliers, customers and partners worldwide!

Pressure reduction by means of hydraulic valves: an opportunity to recover hydraulic energy to reduce operating costs and carbon footprint

Sometimes, a picture is worth more than a thousand words. In the image below, you can see an industrial water supply system with two pressure reducing valves installed in series.

Our engineers have recently visited the site and assessed that the dissipated pressure can instead be transformed into electricity with one of our turbines. This will reduce the energy demand and the customer’s carbon emissions, while ensuring the same pressure reduction effect currently achieved by the valves alone.

If you have a site with potential for energy recovery, do not hesitate to contact us. We will develop a suitable pre-feasibility assessment for you to evaluate the hydropower potential.

Easy Hydro assesses the potential of using the environmental flow of a dam for hydropower generation

The Easy Hydro team visited a hydropower plant to assess the potential for hydropower generation using the environmental flow with a cost-effective turbine to be installed in parallel to the existing groups. The existing potential is currently being dissipated by a reservoir discharge control valve.
